  • Sports Tournament

    Tue 25 Nov 2014

Earlier this week we took 5 teams of children from school to the Hugo Meynell Primary School in Loggerheads, to take part in a sporting event, comprising of netball, football and tag rugby.   Our upper school tag rugby team, lower and upper school netball teams and upper school football team were all victorious in their matches against their counterparts from the hosting school.

Congratulations to all the children who took part and thanks to all those parents and family members who came along to support the children and help transport them to and from the event.

We plan to host a return fixture here at school just before the end of term.

  • Winning letter

    Fri 21 Nov 2014

On Sunday 16 November 2014 one of our pupils, Loveday, was invited to a performance of The Best Christmas Present in the World by Michael Morporgo, to collect a prize for being one of the winners of the Bookfest remembers competition.

At the start of the Autumn term in September 2014, Shrewsbury Children’s Bookfest delivered to 18 primary schools across Shropshire copies of the book.  It describes how in December 1914 the British and German forces famously laid down their arms to play a game of football.  The story is told through a letter that is found by chance almost a century later, bringing one soldier’s experience hauntingly to life.

The children were encouraged to write a letter in response to the story and we were very proud that a number of our children were selected as runners-up in the competition. Moreover, we were extremely pleased that Loveday was one of the winners selected to attend the performance of Michael Morporgo’s play and be presented with her certificate by the author himself.

Congratulations to Loveday, who thoroughly enjoyed attending the play and meeting the author. The school would like to say thank you to the year 6 teachers for giving the children the opportunity to take part in the competition. A major thank you must go to the Shrewsbury Bookfest team, too, for organising and running this amazing event.

  • Bunsen Towers

    Fri 14 Nov 2014

On the morning of Friday 14th November we were visited by the Kinetic Theatre Company, a professional touring theatre-in-education company, whose specialism is to supplement science teaching practices.

The company performed their ‘Bunsen Towers Mystery’ show for the whole school, the storyline of which required the children to apply their scientific knowledge of solids, liquids and gases, materials and mixtures to solve a ‘whodunnit’ style mystery.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the show and will be putting what they learned into practise in their science lessons!

  • Children in Need 2014

    Fri 14 Nov 2014

On Friday 14th November the children came to school in fancy dress, in support of the BBC Children In Need Appeal.

Children arrived garbed in a variety of superhero costumes and plenty of spotty and yellow outfits.

We managed to raise £315.15 on the day.  Thanks to all for entering into the spirit of the event and for the generous donations. Many thanks to  parents for supporting their children.

  • Jazz Event

    Wed 05 Nov 2014

On Wednesday 5th November the children enjoyed a performance by the Shropshire Music Service’s jazz band. This was part of Live Music Week, an initiative designed to inspire and enthuse young people about music. The performance introduced the children to a variety of different musical elements and jazz music, as well as showing them the versatility of the instruments in a jazz band.

Thank you very much to the talented musicians from the Shropshire Music Service and to Mrs Wakelin for organising the event.
