The school’s Under 10 team took part in the Boys County Shield tournament on Wednesday 17th December. All the children played really well despite losing two games against Belvidere and St. George’s 1-0, they won their final game against Coleham 1-0.

  • Christmas Craft Activity Fair

    Wed 17 Dec 2014

Thank you very much to our PTA for organising the Christmas Craft Activity Fair on Wednesday 17th December. The event, which was organised to raise funds for the schools centenary celebrations in March 2015, was very well attended and it made £350.00 to go towards our forthcoming celebrations. Many thanks to all the parents and children who participated.

Finally, thank you very much to both our school choirs who performed a festive set at the event to get everyone in the holiday spirit. Thanks again to Mrs Wakelin and Miss Woods for all their hard work preparing the choirs.

  • The Great Market Drayton Junior School Bake-Off

    Tue 16 Dec 2014

On Tuesday 16th December the school was very excited to host its own Bake-Off competition. Organised by Mrs Hopley, who earlier in the year had won the Shropshire Bake-Off competition, we had 55 entries, which included: sponge cakes, biscuits, cupcakes or the show stopper event.

The judging panel, made up of: Mr Hayward, Mrs Healey (head of our school kitchen), Robert Swift, (Swift’s Bakery, Ludlow), Julie Aoted (Shropshire RCC), Brenda Smith (Shropshire Carers), Sophie Peach (Shrewsbury Bookfest), Liz Watkiss (Trainee teacher) and Mrs Hopley, were very impressed by the high standard of the entries.

Congratulations to all the children and adults who took part and well done to the 12 category winners.

  • Merry Musical Delights

    Tue 16 Dec 2014

Our school choirs have been getting in to the festive spirit, with a variety of seasonal performances over the last two weeks of term.

On Saturday 13th December, members of the Upper School Choir were involved in the carol service at The Christ Church.

On Monday 15th the Upper School Choir took part in a school’s singing event at Bridgemere Garden Centre.  They were invited back by the Centre after singing there last year, to perform a variety of songs and carols from their festive repertoire, watched by passing Christmas shoppers and parents and family members.

  • Santa's on Strike

    Thu 11 Dec 2014

On Tuesday 9th & Thursday 11th December our Year 3 & 4 children performed their stage production of Santa’s on Strike, in front of very appreciative audiences of parents, grandparents and other family members.

The children and staff have been hard at work for the last two or three weeks, rehearsing their scenes, learning songs, creating sets, and making costumes.  The hard work paid off, with the two performances going down a storm!

Special thanks to Mrs Woods and Mrs Dean for their fantastic work creating costumes, Mrs Hunt & Mrs Roberts for their expert technical support (lights & sound) and all of the Year 3 & 4 teachers, support staff and children for producing Oscar-worthy festive entertainment!

  • Joint Schools Carol Service

    Wed 10 Dec 2014

On Wednesday 10th December 2014 our Year 3 choir took part in the annual joint schools carol service at St. Mary’s Church. Thanks to the Grove for organising the event once again and thank you very much to the Revered Tanner for allowing us to perform in the church. Finally, thanks must go to Miss Woods and Mrs Wakelin for all their hard work with the choirs.

On Tuesday 9th December we hosted the second part of the sport fixture between Hugo Meynell, Longlands and ourselves.

Our upper school tag rugby team, lower and upper school netball and football teams played two matches each against their local opponents. Congratulations to all the teams involved as they won all their matches, apart from one which was a draw.

  • Beauty & the Beast

All the children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Festival Drayton Centre on Friday 5th and Monday 8th December to watch a production of Beauty & the Beast.

Thank you very much to the Festival Drayton Centre for booking the event for us and to Mrs Green for organising the children’s attendance.

  • NSPCC Number Day

    Fri 05 Dec 2014

On Friday 5th December the children took part in our ‘Number Day’, as part of the NSPCC’s national fundraising campaign. Mr Moore organised the day to raise the profile of mathematics across the school. Children were invited to come into school in non-uniform, wearing significant numbers on their tops, in exchange for a £1 donation.

During their maths lessons on the day the children were asked to talk about the numbers on their tops and what significance they held for them.  Thanks to all the children who took part for their effort and contributions; we managed to raise £277.50 on the day.

Thank you very much to Mr Moore for organising the event and to all our families for supporting the campaign.
