  • Year 6 Police Cadets

    Fri 20 Jul 2018

Over the last six weeks, some of our Year 6 children have been taking part in the Junior Police Cadet Programme. The course was run by West Mercia Police and gave the children the opportunity to work with local Police Officers on a range of activities. The programme was designed to develop children’s leadership skills, promote citizenship, community awareness and an understanding of the diverse work of the Police, through a range of fun and exciting activities.

The children enjoyed taking part in the activities, which included using walkie-talkies and the phonetic alphabet; looking at the use of alarms and security systems around school; learning about road traffic incidents, and finding out about stranger danger. The children were presented with their own uniforms at the start of the course, which they wore throughout. They recently had a ‘passing out parade’ to celebrate completing their course.

  • Bikeability

    Fri 13 Jul 2018

A large number of our Year 6 pupils recently participated in a Bikeability course. After all passing the level 1 course (on the playground) with flying colours, they moved onto the level 2 course, which saw them cycling off around Market Drayton, demonstrating their skills. They had to show that they were able to ensure that their bicycles are road-worthy and that they could apply all the safety rules of the Highway Code. The children were an absolute credit to themselves and the school; the instructors were full of praise for the way that they focused and for their excellent manners throughout. A huge well done to all who took part; we are very proud of them! Thank you very much to the Bikeability instructors for all their support and patience.

  • Shrewsbury Town Girl’s Football Tournament

    Sat 07 Jul 2018

On July 5th it was the turn of two girls teams to travel to Shrewsbury to take part in their first tournament. On an extremely hot day, the two teams, playing together for the first time, tried really hard during the group stages of the competition. The children should feel very proud of their efforts as their performances improved during each match. Neither team were lucky enough to get through to the final but they thoroughly enjoyed the competition.

Thank you very much to Shrewsbury Town for hosting the tournament and Mr Harrison for driving the teams in the school mini bus.

  • Robert Spiers Football Tournament

    Sat 07 Jul 2018

On Friday 6th  July over two hundred children participated in the annual Robert Spiers Football Tournament. This year we had a World Cup theme with each house representing teams participating in this year’s World Cup.

In the morning, it was the turn of Lower School with the Year 3 and 4 boys and girls competing for the trophy. After some closely fought matches, the eventual winners for the girl’s competition were Russia and the boy’s winners were France.

In the afternoon, it was the turn of Upper School and once again, there were some fiercely competitive matches to watch for the spectators. The eventual winners for the girl’s competition were France and the boy’s winners were Russia.

Well done to all the teams for their sporting attitude towards the competition and thanks to the referees and helpers for all their hard work too. Special thanks to Mr Harrison for the super photographs he took during the day.
