Jubilee Celebrations at Market Drayton Infant and Junior Schools

Children at Market Drayton Infant and Nursery School, both part of Empower Trust,  took part in a week of Jubilee celebrations in the week leading up to the half term.

The schools had an exciting week and had the chance to take part in a range of activities, making the best use of local contacts. Celebrations involved using some of the local clergy to lead assemblies.  RAF Shawbury landed a helicopter at the Junior School and the children had the opportunity to participate in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) workshops.

Children across the primary age participated in dance workshops and looked at dance through the decades and music from the proms.  There were opportunities for the children to take part in art activities and children produced work to be exhibited at Market Drayton library.  The photograph shows a range of children's collaborative art work, aged 2 to 7 years, using techniques including collage, pointillism, shading and painting.

Children came dressed in red, white and blue and had a picnic lunch followed by ice cream.  Many of the classes watched The Lady and the Tramp, which dates back to the 1950s. The children all received a commemorative book mark.  Samantha Scott, Executive Headteacher, said, "The staff worked hard to ensure that the children had a really enjoyable week.  It was great to be able to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee at each school and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it."
