  • Year 4 visits to Park Hill Farm

    Fri 25 Sep 2015

The three year 4 classes have visited Park Hill Farm on Tuesday 22nd, Thursday 24th or Friday 25th September as part of their Food for Thought topic.

During the trip they explored the farm and learnt about the food the farm produces. Undertook a mini habitat walk and learnt to identify many common trees. In addition, they located the countries of food origin from packaging using atlases.

The children really enjoyed the experience and have definitely increased their knowledge of where the food they eat comes from. They will build on from this experience by discovering ways of reducing their carbon footprint.

Many thanks to John and Pat Pimlott, from Park Hill Farm, for making the experience so great for the children. The school would like to thank all the staff who supported the children during the three days of the visit.

  • Macmillan Coffee Morning

    Thu 24 Sep 2015

On Thursday 24th September the school held a coffee morning in aid of the Macmillan cancer charity. This year the school managed to raise £148.40 for the charity. Many thanks to the families who attended the morning and who sent cakes and biscuits for the event.

Thanks also to the school staff for organising the event, including: Mrs Green, Mrs Saunders, Mrs Parsons and Mr Bratt. We would also like to thank the school council members for their help welcoming parents to the event.

  • Taking Swimming Seriously

    Sun 20 Sep 2015

The school is delighted to say announce that we have signed up to ‘Take School Swimming Seriously’ by implementing the ASA’s School Swimming Charter. We have joined in partnership with the national governing body for swimming, the ASA, to help every one of our pupils become confident and capable swimmers.

Swimming is an essential life-saving skill that every child has a right to learn and by launching the School Swimming Charter we want to show that we are dedicated to making our school swimming lessons the best they can be.

The school would like to thank our PE Co-ordinator, Mrs Taylor, for implementing the new scheme.

  • Best School Garden Award

    Wed 16 Sep 2015

We are delighted to have been awarded first prize in the Best School Garden category of the Market Drayton In Bloom competition, for the sixth year running.

Back in July judges from the Market Drayton In Bloom committee came to inspect our school garden and find out all about the work that goes on to develop and maintain it throughout the year.

Mr Boughey, one our Teaching Assistants, along with Miss Whitehouse (a parent helper) run an after-school gardening club on Wednesday afternoons throughout the Autumn, Spring and Summer.  As part of this club, the children are taught how to plant and maintain different types of crops and flowers, as well being involved with the growing and harvesting of crops of fruits, vegetables and herbs, some of which have been used to stock our break-time tuck shop trolley.

In addition, the gardening club helps to look after the school’s garden areas and planters.

A huge congratulations and ‘thank you’ to Mr Boughey, Mrs Hunt, Miss Whitehouse and their gardening club members for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.

Thank you very much to the Market Drayton in Bloom Committee for presenting the award too.
