  • Barnado's Charity update

    Sun 21 Feb 2016 S Moore

Mr Moore’s PSHE class chose Barnardo’s as their charity. They researched the charity and discovered its history along with finding out about how they currently help vulnerable young children.

The pupils were really keen to raise money for this worthwhile charity and came up with a brilliant idea:

Each child ‘sold’ balloons to their family members. On January 21st at 1.30pm, the children released all the balloons. Each balloon carried a simple message to spread the word of the charity and also contained details of how the public could contact us to let us know how far the balloon travelled. We raised £171 for the charity.

The balloon release was a complete success and it wasn’t long until we had an email from Toni-Marie Hudson:

I was walking my dogs and one of them found one of your balloons. She loves balloons so when she found it, she popped it. I walked over to look and noticed the tag attached. It was found at about 4:20pm in Rawmarsh, Rotherham, S.Yorks.

There was another balloon found in Rotherham and a further one found in Sheffield.

A few days later another balloon was discovered in Glossop.

We thought that was the end….until…

On February 14th we had an email from Zoe

Hi my Name is Zoe  and I'm 8 years old. I was walking with my family in Blean woods Near Canterbury in Kent on  14 /2/16. I found this balloon . It travelled  224 miles to Blean woods. Hope you raise loads of money for barnardo's.

Two of our year 5 girls have won a place to perform at the opening ceremony of the level 3 Sainsbury's Winter Games in March. Keira and Pola choreographed a gymnastics routine which they invested a lot of time and effort into outside of school. They have both demonstrated determination and courage and their efforts have paid off. The girls will perform their winning routine at the opening ceremony in March.

  • Winning mascot design

    Fri 05 Feb 2016 S Taylor

As part of the Sainsbury's School Games, we were asked to take part in a competition to design a new mascot for this year's winter games. The children had to design a mascot that encompassed the school games and also links with North Shropshire. We were delighted when the winning design for our area was announced as Daniel, year 4. He worked incredibly hard on his design and is delighted to have won the competition. His design will now go up against 4 other winning designs from all over Shropshire, where the overall winner will be decided. The overall winner will have their design turned into a real life mascot to attend the winter games in March. Attached is a copy of his winning design.
