  • Tom Palmer - author visit

    Thu 19 Jan 2017

Tom visited our school on the 18th January and entertained the children with three Reading the Game sessions - a mixture of reading, answering questions and a penalty shoot-out! The quiz appealed to both boys and girls and everyone volunteered to answer the questions based upon magazines, newspapers, fiction and non-fiction books. The winners of the quiz then participated in the penalty shoot-out.

During the day he signed copies of some of his more popular books and took the time to answer the children’s questions. In addition, three children who had previously read his books were invited to take part in an interview with Tom based on his popular football series, Football Academy. The interview can be seen on Tom’s Amazon page at: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tom-Palmer/e/B005H8A1JK/ref=sr_tc_2_0?qid=1486083573&sr=8-2-ent .

Thank you very much to the three children who interviewed Tom; they were amazing - very calm and asked probing questions.

Quotes from the children: “It was awesome; I really liked finding out why he wrote his books,” Georgia and Michaela. “The penalty shoot-out gave people something to aim for when answering the questions,” Kieran.

“Tom was very open to our ideas; he was really interested in our opinions too. I really enjoyed reading his Black Op book – they are not just for boys but girls too,” Layla.

“We really liked interviewing Tom, he was very down to earth and honest about the fact he hadn’t published all his books. It was obvious that he was passionate about inspiring children to develop a love of reading; he recommended series of books by other authors that I would like to read too,” Tom and Isabel.

  • Get Involved in a National Research Study!

    Sat 07 Jan 2017

Our school is taking part in a national research study about child anxiety funded by the National Institute for Health Research. We are hoping as many families as possible with children in years 3 - 6 will get involved. The research team from the University of Reading are really keen for a broad range of families to take part, including those with children who are confident, those who are anxious and those in between. We are sending home information about the research study, together with some short questionnaires. You can also find out more about the research, agree to take part and complete the short questionnaires here: https://reading.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/n-cat_parent_questionnaires .
