  • Ballsports Manchester City Football Tournament

    Sat 30 Jun 2018

Due to the success of both teams at the local competition, the school was invited to Manchester City Training Academy to take part in their North Shropshire tournament. Thirteen schools took part in this tournament and once again, both the Year 5 and Year 6 teams participated. Both teams played extremely well once again and performed terrifically through the group stages. It meant that once again they had to face each other in the semi-finals. This time, after another closely fought match, the Year 6s snatched the victory with a 1-0 result.

The Year 6 team then went on to play a mixed team from Crifitins and Cockshutt in the final. The sides were evenly matched with the match ending 0-0. During the subsequent penalty shoot-out, three of the Year 6 players scored their penalties and our goalkeeper saved two of theirs. The Year 6 team thoroughly deserved their victory and they were very excited when they were presented with a shield from the academy.

Thank you very much once again to our governor, Mr Sheldon, for all his help during the tournament. Thank you very much too to all the parents who travelled to Manchester with us and cheered on the teams.

Thanks to Ballsports for organising both events, which the children thoroughly enjoyed participating in, and thanks to Greenfields and Manchester City Academy for allowing us to use their facilities for the tournaments.

  • Year 4 Liverpool Museum Visit

    Thu 21 Jun 2018

On 19th and 21stsJune the Year 4 children embarked on a visit to the Liverpool World Museum. The main focus of the visit was to practically experience the year’s context for learning; the children explored Egyptian artefacts and mummified bodies, linked to their Tomb Raiders topic. In addition, to link to their Charles Darwin theme of Daring Discoveries, the children were given the opportunity to examine fossils, specimens, bones and plants. The visit increased the children’s wonder and awe and deepened their understanding of the topics being studied in class.

  • Becoming an academy school

    Mon 04 Jun 2018

We are delighted to confirm that on June 1st Market Drayton Junior School officially became an academy school and a member of the Empower Multi Academy Trust (MAT). We join five other schools in the partnership, Market Drayton Infant School, St Peter’s Primary School in Wem and the Shrewsbury schools Greenacres Primary School, Woodfield Infant School and Wilfred Owen Primary School. St George’s Junior School in Shrewsbury has been granted authority to join us shortly. All of the schools are graded good or outstanding by Ofsted.

Our teaching and administration staff are already working closely together to make the most of the benefits offered by this partnership to further improve the education and resources we offer the children. We also continue to work closely with the Local Authority who provide many of our services and the Grove School through our ongoing membership of the Market Drayton Learning Partnership.
