Ballsports Manchester City Football Tournament

Due to the success of both teams at the local competition, the school was invited to Manchester City Training Academy to take part in their North Shropshire tournament. Thirteen schools took part in this tournament and once again, both the Year 5 and Year 6 teams participated. Both teams played extremely well once again and performed terrifically through the group stages. It meant that once again they had to face each other in the semi-finals. This time, after another closely fought match, the Year 6s snatched the victory with a 1-0 result.

The Year 6 team then went on to play a mixed team from Crifitins and Cockshutt in the final. The sides were evenly matched with the match ending 0-0. During the subsequent penalty shoot-out, three of the Year 6 players scored their penalties and our goalkeeper saved two of theirs. The Year 6 team thoroughly deserved their victory and they were very excited when they were presented with a shield from the academy.

Thank you very much once again to our governor, Mr Sheldon, for all his help during the tournament. Thank you very much too to all the parents who travelled to Manchester with us and cheered on the teams.

Thanks to Ballsports for organising both events, which the children thoroughly enjoyed participating in, and thanks to Greenfields and Manchester City Academy for allowing us to use their facilities for the tournaments.
