5SL Parent Lunch

Many thanks to the parents who attended Mrs Lomas' Parent Lunch on Wednesday 29th January. This is the feedback given to Miss Kynaston after their reading comprehension session with her:

Do you find it hard to get your child to read at home?

Varies - some yes, some no. Can depend on work commitments and clubs, more difficult at weekends.

Do you feel more confident in helping your child with reading?

Yes

Was there a particular part of the session you found interesting?

It was all interesting and thought-provoking, great insight into the test papers, the fact they need to read books other than Tom Gates, different strategies of questioning, knowing how many words they should be reading in a minute, that I need to make sure my child lets me know words they don’t understand, working with my child to see how much they know and understand, the wording they have to read for end of KS2 tests, the way teachers tackle comprehension, realising how much of an effect the 20 minutes reading a day can have on their vocabulary, seeing Bug Club from the teacher side, how the school uses the reading dogs for questioning.

Can you think of ways to improve the session moving forward?

More examples of websites as children prefer online reading, a better way to read large words quickly, coffee! Keep it simple.
