Year 3

The Roaming Romans

Our Autumn term theme, the historical focus for the term is The Stone Age to The Iron Age and The Roaming Romans, is a splendid start to the year! The children will develop their concept of time and use both primary and secondary sources to learn about the past. We will also consider the concept of change linked to Market Drayton. The children will also carry out some independent research on The Romans using their computing skills and research skills to consolidate their “hands on” experience.

Children will also look at how soldiers have changed over time from the Celts to the Romans, to modern day soldiers.

By the end of the term, Year 3 children will have understood the concept of chronology through working together to create timelines, using both primary and secondary sources of information and taken part in discussions to advise Claudius on the wisdom of invading Britain.

The focus of our D&T this term will be the theme of Moving Monsters, with an inbuilt pneumatic system to allow them to move. The children will also use the Moving Monsters theme as a stimulus for their writing in Literacy.

It promises to be an exceptionally busy term, but hopefully a super start to their time at the Junior School.
