During the term we will be studying local geography, linking Market Drayton and Shrewsbury by comparing and contrasting the River Tern and the River Severn. We will visit the River Tern and the Severn to compare them both. While visiting the River Severn we will be having a guided tour of Shrewsbury Museum and then exploring various significant locations around the town. In the morning, the children will be having a ride down the River Severn on the Sabrina boat, to see the River Severn closer to. The boat trip will include a commentary on the landmarks alongside the river.
In English we will focus on the story of Seal Surfer, by Michael Morpurgo, using this as a model to improve and innovate our own writing. Our Rivers theme, feeds into our Design Technology unit, as we design and build bridges using our knowledge of the different bridge structures in use around the world.
In Science, during the first half of the term we will focus on Earth Rocks, designing a rock fact file, and considering the properties of various rocks.
In the second half of term the theme Opposites Attract, we will be looking at magnets and their uses and what makes magnetic poles special. We will also investigate which breakfast cereals contain iron!
During this term we will be examining Christian and Jewish weddings; how both Christianity and Judaism welcome people into their faith by considering a Christian baptism and a celebration of naming a new born child in Judaism. We will also be exploring symbolism in both Christianity and Judaism.
