2015 - A VERY SPECIAL YEAR
2015 marks a very special occasion at our school as it will be 100 years since the first pupils enrolled at the Alexandra Road site. Building work had begun in 1914, as recorded on a plaque on the front of the main building, but the doors first opened on March 8th 1915, when 206 children joined the school.
To celebrate this historic year we hope to host a number of events and would welcome ideas and contributions from the local community. If you have any photographs or artefacts linked with the school’s past we would be particularly interested to hear from you as we hope to put together an exhibition, in school, next Spring.
To help make this special milestone more relevant to our students’ learning, the children will be studying aspects of the past 100 years during their lessons at various points throughout the year.
Some of the proposed celebratory events include:
A museum and exhibition open to the public - week beginning March 2nd
An open day to see the school as it is today - March 6th
A firework and music party - evening of March 6th
A summer fete and garden party with live music
Specific details of events will be advertised nearer the time and we very much look forward to inviting the local community to join us in our celebrations!
